Large Format Printing for Oversized Photography, Fine Art & Reproductions
Custom-sized from 24x36 through gallery scale. Archival giclée paper or premium stretched canvas. Print-only or finished in a custom frame on a single order.
Large format printing refers to any print larger than what a standard desktop printer produces, typically anything over 24x36 inches. We treat anything over that size as large format and produce up through gallery scale on archival giclée paper or premium stretched canvas. Common large format use cases: oversized photography, fine art reproduction, lobby canvas pieces, hospitality and corporate installations, and statement walls in high-end residential design.
Large Format Printing for Fine Art and Photography
Three media cover almost every large format job. Archival giclée paper (matte or lustre) is the choice for fine art reproduction and oversized photography that will sit behind glazing in a frame. Premium poly-cotton canvas, stretched on solid wood bars, is the choice for statement pieces that hang without a frame, especially in lobby and hospitality settings. Rigid mounted prints (paper laminated to a stiff substrate) are common for trade show backdrops and exhibition installations. All three use the same archival pigment ink system, so color is consistent regardless of media.
How do you ship a large format print without damaging it?
Different sizes get different packaging. Paper prints over 24x36 ship rolled in heavy-wall mailing tubes with end caps and archival interleaf paper. Canvas under 36x48 ships pre-stretched in rigid double-wall cartons with foam corner protection. Canvas over 36x48 ships unstretched and rolled, with simple reassembly instructions for your installer. Framed large format pieces are double-boxed with edge crush board on all four sides and shipped fully insured. Damage in transit across large format shipments runs well under 2 percent.
Can you frame a large format print, or should it ship unframed?
Both options work, and the right answer depends on the piece and the install. For canvas, gallery-wrap stretched canvas usually hangs without a frame and looks complete on its own. For paper prints, framing protects the piece and adds wall presence. For framed large format we use framer's grade acrylic instead of glass at scale, because glass over 30 inches becomes heavy, fragile, and risky to ship. Acrylic is shatter-resistant, lighter, and safer to hang. Print and frame ship as one order so there is no handoff.
What file resolution do I need for a large format print?
300 DPI at the target print size is the standard for sharp detail. For very large pieces (over 40 inches) you can usually drop to 150 to 200 DPI because the typical viewing distance increases with size and the eye stops resolving fine detail from across the room. If your file is borderline, send it before placing the order and we will preview an output strategy at no charge. Most large format files come from medium and large format cameras, drum scans of original art, or high-resolution digital art at native size.
How does large format printing pricing work?
Pricing scales with size and media. Most large format giclée paper prints between 24x36 and 40x60 land between $90 and $300 print-only. Canvas at the same dimensions runs slightly higher because of the stretching and bar costs. Framed large format adds the cost of the frame, mat, and acrylic glazing. Volume pricing for editions, gallery and consultant relationships, and corporate rollouts is available. Send exact dimensions and intended media for an itemized quote within one business day.
