Replacement Glazing for a Broken Frame
If the glass in a frame broke, you do not need to replace the whole frame. Measure the glazing opening, which is the area the glass sits in behind the frame's lip, not the outside of the frame. If you still have the old glass, measure that directly. We cut new frame-grade acrylic to match and you drop it back in.
We replace broken glass with acrylic on purpose. Acrylic is shatter-resistant, so the piece that caused the problem in the first place is replaced with glazing that is harder to break and safer to live with. It works for any frame, not just frames we sold. Why We Use Acrylic, Not Glass
Standard glass in a picture frame is heavy and brittle. It cracks in shipping, and when it breaks it leaves sharp shards behind the artwork and on the floor. Frame-grade acrylic solves that, which is why every piece of glazing we cut is acrylic.
- Shatter-resistant. Acrylic will not break into sharp shards the way glass does.
- Harder to break. It holds up in shipping and in homes with kids and pets, where glass tends to fail.
- Safer to handle. No dangerous edges if the frame is dropped or knocked off a wall.
- Lighter. It weighs far less than glass, so large pieces are easier to hang and stay put.
- Frame-grade clarity. Optically clear so your artwork reads true.
The one tradeoff is that the surface is softer than glass, so clean it with a microfiber cloth rather than a paper towel.
Non-Glare Acrylic
Non-glare acrylic cuts the reflection that comes off glazing from windows and room lights. Choose it for pieces hung opposite a window, under spotlights, or in bright rooms where clear glazing would mirror the room back at you.
The tradeoff is a very slight surface texture, so for a low-light wall clear acrylic is usually the better pick. Both finishes are the same shatter-resistant frame-grade acrylic, so you keep the safety either way.
Acrylic for Large Frames
Acrylic matters most on big pieces. Large glass is heavy and breaks in transit, while acrylic ships without that risk and is far easier and safer to hang. Standard cut-to-size acrylic ships up to 32 by 40 inches (or 40 by 32 inches).

How to Measure for Cut-to-Size Acrylic
- Measure the opening the glazing sits in, called the rabbet, not the frame's outer edge.
- If you still have the old glass, measure that piece directly.
- Measure twice so the width and height are exact.
- Order the exact opening size. We account for the cut so the acrylic drops in cleanly.
