Textile Framing

Scarf Framing & Graduation Sash Display Cases

Scarf and sash framing turns silk scarves, vintage scarves, graduation sashes, and other meaningful textiles into framed wall pieces built to your exact size. We frame textiles in shadow boxes with stitch mounting that holds the fabric without glue or pins through the cloth itself, on acid-free backing that keeps the textile preservation-safe. Clear framer's grade acrylic keeps the textile visible from any angle and keeps the case light to hang. Standard orders ship in 3-5 business days.

How We Frame a Scarf

Textiles are mounted with stitches that pass through the backing, not through the fabric itself. The scarf is held in place by tension and gentle support points, so the original cloth stays unpierced and unglued. Acid-free backing sits beneath the textile, and spacers hold the glazing off the surface so the fabric never presses against the acrylic. Depth options range from 1 inch for a folded scarf to 2 inches for a more dimensional layout.

Silk Scarves, Vintage Scarves, and Luxury Designer Scarves

Silk and luxury designer scarves with a printed maker's mark or signature corner display particularly well with the maker's edge visible. The scarf is folded or arranged so the recognizable corner sits prominently in the frame, with the rest of the silk laid out around it. Acid-free everything matters for silk, since silk is more sensitive to acidic materials than cotton or synthetic fabrics. All backing, spacers, and mat boards we use are acid-free.

Graduation Sash Framing

A graduation sash can frame on its own or with the diploma, the graduation photo, and the tassel in the same case. The most common layout puts the sash in the lower portion of a tall shadow box with the diploma matted above. A multi-opening layout fits the sash, photo, and tassel in one piece. See the diploma frames page for related diploma framing details.

Football Scarves and Sports Team Scarves

Soccer and football scarves are a real subcategory of textile framing. A team scarf fits in a long horizontal shadow box, often paired with a matchday ticket or a small team patch. The same stitch mounting and acid-free backing applies. See the sports memorabilia framing page for the broader sports collection.

Other Textiles We Frame

The same shadow box build supports a wide range of textile pieces:

  • Keffiyehs and traditional headscarves
  • Embroidered ceremonial pieces
  • Vintage silk handkerchiefs
  • Religious cloth and prayer cloths
  • Christening gowns
  • Small flags and banners

Add an Engraved Nameplate

A brushed brass nameplate engraves up to three lines of text. Common uses: graduation year and school for sash framing, the scarf origin for vintage pieces, dedication text for memorial textiles, or the date and event for ceremonial pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you frame a scarf without damaging it?

The scarf is held in place with stitches through the backing fabric, not through the scarf itself. Acid-free backing sits beneath the textile and spacers hold the glazing off the surface so the cloth never presses against the acrylic. No glue is used on the scarf at any point.

Can you frame a silk scarf flat or only folded?

Both. A flat display needs a frame as large as the unfolded scarf, which can be a 36 inch square or larger. A folded display works in a much smaller case (16 by 20 is typical) and lets you orient the scarf so the maker's mark or a favorite corner shows.

Do you frame graduation sashes with the diploma?

Yes. A multi-opening shadow box layout fits the sash, the diploma, the graduation photo, and the tassel together in one piece. See the diploma frames page for the diploma side of the layout.

Can you frame a football or soccer scarf?

Yes. Team scarves frame well in a long horizontal shadow box, often paired with a matchday ticket or a team patch. The construction is the same stitch-mount build used for silk and ceremonial scarves.

How do I keep the scarf from yellowing in the frame?

Acid-free backing and mat materials prevent the framing itself from causing yellowing. Display location matters more. Keep the frame out of direct sunlight, which fades and yellows most textiles regardless of how they are framed.

How long does textile framing take?

Standard orders ship in 3-5 business days from when we receive the textile.
