Three Surfaces, One Frame Builder
Most bulletin boards, cork boards, and pin boards sold in stores come with thin plastic frames that warp within a year. Ours use real picture frame mouldings: the same wood and finish options we use on our custom picture frames. You pick the surface, pick the size, and pick the frame style. We build it in our New Jersey shop and ship a finished framed cork board, framed chalkboard, or framed dry erase board ready to hang.
Cork boards (also called pin boards, message boards, or memo boards) accept pushpins and tacks. Framed chalkboards take standard chalk and liquid chalk markers. Framed dry erase boards work with any dry erase marker and wipe clean with a cloth. All three surfaces are mounted on a rigid backer so they stay flat inside the wood frame.

Picking a Frame Style
Every picture-frame moulding we stock is available for bulletin boards. That means 40 real wood profiles ranging from slim 0.75" flat black frames to wide ornate walnut frames. The frame wraps the board on all four sides, so the moulding width you choose directly affects how substantial the finished wood-framed cork board, chalkboard, or dry erase board looks on the wall.
For a clean modern look, try a flat matte black or white frame. For a warmer feel in a kitchen or living room, natural oak or walnut works well; both pair especially nicely with a kitchen cork board or kitchen chalkboard. Gold and bronze frames are popular for restaurant chalkboards and event signage where the board needs to feel upscale.
Common Questions
How thick is the cork surface?
The cork layer is approximately 1/4 inch thick, bonded to a rigid fiberboard backer. Standard pushpins and tacks hold securely without poking through the back.
Can I use liquid chalk markers on the chalkboard?
Yes. The chalkboard surface works with standard chalk sticks and liquid chalk markers. Liquid chalk markers produce cleaner lines and brighter colors. They wipe off with a damp cloth. Regular chalk erases with a dry eraser.
Will the dry erase board ghost over time?
All dry erase surfaces can develop faint marks if ink sits for weeks without being erased. To prevent ghosting, erase and wipe the surface with a dry erase cleaning spray at least once a week. If ghosting occurs, rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth removes most residue.
How does the board hang on the wall?
Each board ships with pre-installed hanging hardware. Smaller boards (12×12 and 24×12) use sawtooth hangers. Larger boards use a wire hanger rated for the weight of the finished piece. We include wall anchors and screws in the box.
Can I hang the 24×12 board vertically?
The 24×12 board is designed for landscape (horizontal) orientation, but it can be hung vertically. If you select sawtooth hangers, they are mounted for landscape by default. Contact us after ordering if you need vertical mounting hardware instead.
