Canvas condition assessment
Aged canvases, canvases stored rolled, or canvases with sag or warping need physical assessment before framing decisions are finalized. We look at canvas weave tension, original bar condition, and any surface or substrate issues affecting the framing approach. The condition often shapes the spec, a slack canvas on a tired old bar is a re-stretch first, frame second.
Stretcher bar decisions
At oversized scales, standard pre-cut bar systems develop structural flex that allows canvas sag. Custom mortise-and-tenon bars with crossbar bracing solve this, but only when sized to the specific canvas.
