How We Frame Challenge Coins
Coins Need More Than a Regular Frame
Challenge coins are thick. A standard picture frame does not have enough depth to hold them. Our shadow box frames give coins the space they need. The frame depth keeps coins from pressing against the acrylic front.
Every Coin Gets Its Own Opening
We cut a circular mat opening for each coin. The opening is sized to your exact coin diameter. Coins sit in the opening and are held in place by the mat board. No adhesives needed.
Your Photo, Printed and Framed
Every layout includes a photo opening next to the coins. Upload your photo in the designer. We print it on professional photo paper and mount it in the frame. Layouts with 1-4 coins use a 5×7 photo. Layouts with 5-6 coins use an 8×10 photo.
Add a Brass Nameplate
An engraved brass plate adds a personal touch. Add up to three lines of text. Choose gold or silver finish. The nameplate mounts below the coins and photo inside the frame.
Who Frames Challenge Coins?
Military service members, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and first responders. Anyone who collects challenge coins can create a display that honors their service and achievements.
Custom Frame Shop Quality Materials That Last
We use custom frame shop quality mat board and backing. These materials protect your coins and photo from damage over time. The mat board is available in 45 colors with single or double mat options.
Choosing the Right Frame Style
We offer 82 frame profiles. Dark wood frames work well for military and law enforcement displays. Lighter finishes suit casual or home settings. Use the designer to preview how different frames look with your coins.
Common Mistakes
Using a Regular Frame
Standard frames are too shallow. Coins will press against the glass and may fall out.
Gluing Coins Down
Adhesives can damage coin finishes. Our mat openings hold coins without glue.
Wrong Opening Size
Our coin size slider lets you set the exact diameter so every coin fits properly.
Picking a Layout
Start with how many coins you want to display. One coin works well for a single achievement. Two coins stack vertically. Three coins form a pyramid. Four coins sit in a 2×2 grid. Five and six coin layouts include a larger 8×10 photo.
Which coin shape do you have?
The designer above cuts round mat openings sized for standard 1.75″ to 2.5″ coins. If your coin is shield-shaped, a crest, a spinner, or any other non-round cutout, there's a path for that too.
Round challenge coin
Standard 1.75″ to 2.5″ round military, police, fire, or organizational coins. Pick a layout above and we cut the circular mat openings to your exact diameter.
Use this designerShield, crest, or odd shape?
Shield-cut commander coins, crests, spinners, and novelty shapes don't fit a round opening. Build a custom shadow box with the depth and matting to display your coin float-mounted, on a pin, or in a fabric-lined tray.
